the photographs of a teenage dreamerdeviantartfacebookflickrtumblr

neomi, may 31st.

last month, after finishing my final exams, i received a fuji instax instant film camera (+ 11 boxes of film with 10 shots each) as a gift from my parents for my high school graduation. i've been so immersed in digital photography for the past few years that the slight adjustment to film was a puzzling, yet welcoming, change. before i began to find passion in photography, i used programs such as photoshop as a creative outlet for my blossoming imagination. within the next three years, a love for photography followed.

i've been so accustomed to photoshop, and editing in general, that  i find it unusual not to open the program immediately after a photo shoot and (try to) find something that requires modification or removal. using my instax is teaching me to appreciate the unique quirks of my photography and to accept that photo manipulation may not always be the answer. sometimes, these "flaws" may be the exact things others find amazing.

i'm learning to value my natural aesthetic in a way i never have before, and for those of you who haven't yet, i encourage you to do the same. i developed a fascination with photography because of how pure and honest it can be, and i'm glad that, at least for this set, i returned to my humble beginnings. a huge "thank you" goes to the naturally beautiful neomi, ready within an hour to model in the most torrid of days in waterlogged fields and on sun-drenched pavement.
