last week, my mother celebrated her birthday without me for the first time since i was born. on the week of her birthday, i was on a weeklong school trip, where i was unable to contact her on her birthday and wish her even the shortest of wishes. i already felt horrible and felt even more so when she described to me how much she missed having me around, particularly on that day. it was a bittersweet thought as we both remembered how i am going away for college this fall. when valentine's day started to approach, i knew i would have the opportunity to buy flowers for her. my desire was to show my mom just how much she means to me and how much i regretted not being there for her on her birthday. two photographs are of the white flowers, which were part of the rose bouquet i bought for her, while the other photos are of a pink gerbera i received by a friend on the day. you can view all photographs here on my flickr in HQ.
